FEATURED BOOK: Wassermann Gardens by Milo Samardzija

Book Synopsis:

Wassermann Gardens is the story of a group of young soldiers who have contracted a wildly contagious and fatal disease. The disease is considered so dangerous to humanity that the soldiers are declared Missing in Action and quarantined on an unknown and unnamed island in the South Pacific, where they must live out their few remaining years.

As living conditions on the island deteriorate, the men plagued by madness, blindness, starvation, deadly violence, and relentless hurricanes, they realize they have only one chance for survival, one last desperate mission — escape.

Although the story touches on many elements – MIAs, the ecology, the concept of individual interests versus humanity’s general welfare – it is primarily a story about ordinary human beings struggling to survive in the most desperate of situations — and one soldier’s irrational devotion to duty no matter the personal cost.

Milo Samardzija is a semi-retired advertising creative director and U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam conflict. Wassermann Gardens, his second novel, is an attempt to come to terms with the experience of war and its often bitter aftermath. He lives in Chicago, Illinois, with his wife and two children.

My Review of The Red Hot Bucket List by Malerie Page

Amber Aiken-Wood, is a 24-year-old, journalism graduate that has arrived in New York to start her Journalism career. She is originally from Scotland so she has that hot Scottish accent that easily gets her noticed. Amber has an encounter with a co-worker that inspires her to really discover her sexual prowess and she comes up with a blog titled the “Red Hot Bucket List”. This list is a list of things that she wants to accomplish within 12 months.

Through her job and living out this list, Amber gets herself into some precarious risque’ situations. Some of the things that happens to Amber, I found unbelievable. Seriously that situation just happens in every day life? Serendipity, maybe. Amber, by checking of her bucket list, meets a man from her office, who she starts to fall in love with, which I personally thought was a big mistake.

I have to say Amber should play the lottery with the luck that she has in this book. The book is obviously filled with a lot of sex but nothing too outlandish. I liked the way that Amber went from feeling insecure about her body to becoming a woman that owns her body, and that deserves a hell yeah from me!

I give it 3 out of 4 suspenders and knickers!

Everything I Left Unsaid by M. O’Keefe

First and foremost, I must say a book has never touched in a way this book did. I fell asleep reading this book and woke up to read this book. I am only going to give you enough information so that you absolutely must read it!!!!

The story of Annie and Dylan was so enthrallingly captivating and thrilling. Every page you uncover more and more about Annie and Dylan’s secrets, their relationship, and the inner demons they carry. This book is about betrayal, loss, love, the ability to overcome one’s past, and acceptance. It does end on a cliff hanger, so I can’t wait for The Truth About Him.

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing to review this book before the release date, and to post my honest review.

My review of Twisted Love by R.C. Stephens

51VczjBaJ9L._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_This book was absolutely captivating from start to finish, and I couldn’t put it down until I finished it (very late last night). I admit that I did not read the first book in the series, but I easily could follow the story of Alexis, Dylan and Luc. Alexis is in her last year of law school, Dylan is in his residency program as a doctor, and Luc is….let’s just say trouble.

The book takes place in Canada with Alexis haven been severely beaten, hospitalized for several days, and suffered a terrible loss. She returns home to her best friend and roommate, Anna, and starts therapy to overcome her abusive childhood and her current situation. Dylan is trying to win the love and trust of Alexis back, but is also harboring things from his past that he fears will have Alexis running, and Luc is trying to stay out of jail, hold onto Alexis, while trying to keep her safe from his family (which I found a little ironic). I don’t want to even get started on Alexis’ mother!!!

I think that author does an amazing job by wrapping up the book by writing, “Fate had twisted our love but when true love was given to you, you didn’t back down. You fought hard and made life what you wanted it to be.”

With that being said, this book is a little bit of a time jumper and there was a lot going on in this book with the other characters that had me a little confused. What happened to Alexis’ sister? I understand she want back to school, but after their phone conversation she wanted to reveal something to Alexis, and she’s never heard from again. Alexis’ mother, the evil wrench, suddenly has an about face? Anna reveals something life altering from her past to Alexis over text? As riveting as this book was and as happy as I was to see it end the way it did, I will still baffled by some of the character’s roles in the book. I don’t know if the author is going to continue the series or if she was just trying to wrap up the last book as best as she could. Just my opinion. It is my review, right?
