#BookBloggers- If you aren’t doing this, you are missing out!!

I recently attended a Facebook Party called The Final Countdown Author Takeover Party on January 18, 2016, and I have attended a lot of these Facebook parties and they are a lot of fun. You get to meet and interact with authors, win prizes and just have a whole lot of fun.

The reason why I am pointing this out is because at this particular party I met an awesome author that I have not heard of before. I highly encourage those of you who are book bloggers to attend these parties. You can friend me on Facebook here and I will send you an invite to these great events.  If it hadn’t been for this party, I would have missed out on a great author, C.H. Armstrong, and her new book, The Edge of Nowhere.

Here is some information about C.H. Armstrong and her new book. I can’t wait to review it!!!

The year is 1992 and Victoria Hastings Harrison Greene—reviled matriarch of a sprawling family—is dying.

After surviving the Oklahoma Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, Victoria refuses to leave this earth before revealing the secrets she’s carried for decades.

Once the child of a loving family during peaceful times, a shocking death shattered her life. Victoria had to come face to face with the harshness of the world. As the warm days of childhood receded to distant memory, Victoria learns to survive.

No matter what it takes.

To keep her family alive in an Oklahoma blighted by dust storms and poverty, Victoria makes choices—harsh ones, desperate ones. Ones that eventually made her into the woman her grandchildren fear and whisper about. Ones that kept them all alive. Hers is a tale of tragedy, love, murder, and above all, the conviction to never stop fighting.

C.H. Armstrong is a native Oklahoman transplanted in Minnesota, and is the author of The Edge of Nowhere, a work of historical fiction inspired by her own family’s experiences in rural Oklahoma during the 1930s Oklahoma Dust Bowl and The Great Depression.

A 1992 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, she holds a B.A. in Journalism and a minor in History. Cathie (as she is known to her friends) is a prolific reader of many genres, and vividly remembers learning to read and the thrill of “unlocking the code” behind the letters that make up a word. Her favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird, and she credits the lessons of Atticus Finch for shaping her into the adult she is today. Her Young Adult Novel, In My Shoes, pays tribute to Harper Lee and those many lessons.

My review of The Twisted Road to You by Barbara Longley

This is story involving retired Marine, Wesley Holt, and Carlie Stewart, a waitress and a single mother to her six-year-old son. Carlie works at Wes’ favorite restaurant where he goes in every morning after working third shift to eat and to see Carlie.

The book takes place in Perfect, Indiana. Wes is suffering from PTSD and a broken heart from his ex-wife. Carlie is haunted by her past, including her psychotic ex-husband, I call “Asshole”.

Carlie does not show up for work one morning and her boss is concerned. Wes immediately goes to Carlie’s house and finds Carlie and her son in trouble. Carlie’s fugitive ex-husband has escaped from prison and will not relent until he has taken their son from Carlie at any cost, including killing Carlie. Thankfully, Wes is able to save Carlie and her son this time from her ex-husband.

This is when the story really begins……Carlie’s ex-husband will do anything to get to Carlie and their son.

Carlie hasn’t had the easiest life in her past and she sells herself short due to her past. She doesn’t see how far she has come in her life. The amazing mother that she is and the courage it took for her to leave her ex-husband. Wes is an honorable man but he is struggling with his past military experiences and betrayal by his ex-wife.

This is an amazing story about how two broken people can come together and help each other heal and learn to love themselves. Also, throughout this story, there is also a lot of community involvement as well that helps Carlie and Wes. It was nice to see the community rally around to help Carlie and Wes and that is the way it should be but often is not anymore.

I give this book 4 out of 4 “waf-ees” (See rating system above)
