Anika Massey, best friend to the vampirian princess, has lusted after her friend’s older brother, Toma, for years and he doesn’t seem to even notice she exists. At least, she didn’t think the Dark Shadows warrior did, until the necromancers turned their focus on her.

He noticed her. One touch and Toma Olaru knew he wouldn’t be able to give her up. Since their first meeting he could not get the curvy human female off of his mind. He knew it wasn’t right for him to have feelings for his sister’s best friend, but fate had decided that she’s his mate. She’s human and according to Vampire laws, he cannot have her and should have never touched her.

Anika understands the ways of the vampires and knows she must let Toma go, but will Toma be willing to let her go?

Toma Olaru is the middle offspring of the Vampire King. He’s one of the most deadly members of the Dark Shadows. His presence has been known to produces fear in the heart of most… except Anika’s. Fear is the last thing that comes to mind when he’s around her.

Sneak Peek

After working a 12-hour shift she took a deep breath and stared out into the eerily quiet parking lot. A pitch-black parking lot, she added, laughing nervously to herself. Anika Massey never thought that she would be too chicken to walk out of the hospital at night by herself. “You can do it, Massey!” she muttered to herself. She had become accustomed to having her vampire guard trailing her everywhere she went after her best friend, Nadira, had been attacked about a month ago. Today was her first day with no guard and she was more nervous than a prostitute walking into church. Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the door to the hospital and practically ran to her silver Toyota Camry. She looked into the car first, made sure no one was hiding in the back seats and then jumped in and locked the doors. “This is crazy!” she said, shaking her head as she started the car and put it into drive. She didn’t live far from the hospital and made sure that she drove a little faster than normal to hurry home. She thought of all the tips that her Vampire guard, Idris had given her before he was pulled from guarding her. He had taught her tips on how to spot someone following her; he had installed a new alarm system in her condo and even taught her a few self-defense maneuvers, just in case someone threatened her. Her best friend Nadira Olaru, a vampire princess, wanted to have a purpose in life and had become a nurse. They met back in nursing school and have been inseparable since. Nadira was even able to pull some strings to help Anika get her nursing job at Lutheran Hospital, a private paranormal hospital that few humans were privileged to know about and Anika was one hundred percent human. She was one of the few humans that work at the hospital. In all of her twenty-nine years, she would never have thought that there were supernatural beings walking this Earth with humans. Nadira was patient in explaining about her being born a vampire and the other paranormals. A little over a month ago, Nadira became the target of a group of powerful beings called necromancers who were currently at war with the vampires. An attempt was made to snatch Nadira, and Anika was with her right before it happened. As a precaution, Nadira’s father, the king of vampires, assigned a guard to watch over Anika. It had been a month now and since there were no other occurrences involving Anika, it was decided that she would no longer require a guard. “I’ll be fine. The necros do not want a pleasantly plump human,” she tried to reassure herself as she pulled into the parking lot of her condominium. She didn’t live in the best of neighborhoods but at least there were plenty of street lamps illuminating the parking lot. Her building was an all brick three-story building with two condos on each level. Goosebumps spread across her arms as she began walking up to her third floor condo. The Cleveland night air could be chilly in the fall. She hurried up the stairs when a feeling of dread began to appear in her belly. She slowed down as she made it to the top of the stairs on her level. She silently cursed herself for taking the top floor condo and the buildings lack of an elevator. At five foot five and one hundred and sixty pounds, she wasn’t drastically over weight but she was definitely out of shape and had thought it would be great exercise when she first bought the place. She definitely wasn’t what was plastered all across the supermarket magazines. The condo across from her had been empty for a few months. The previous owners moved due to the husband’s job transferring him to Phoenix, Arizona. She stopped outside her door, putting her ear to it to listen to see if someone was in her apartment. “Get a grip Massey, there is no one in your condo!” She unlocked the door, and immediately noticed something was wrong. She pushed the door open and flipped the light switch in her entryway and immediately a scream tore from her throat. “Oh my God!” Her place had been ransacked. Everything was flipped over, her pictures slashed and thrown across the room. The pillows in her couches were slashed and the filling scattered across the floor. Even her television didn’t make it; it was cracked as if someone kicked it in. “Snowball?” She called out for her little West Highland white terrier that her parents had given her for her birthday seven years ago. She didn’t come running like she normally would when Anika came home. She frantically wiped her face as tears flowed down her cheeks. She knew she shouldn’t go into the apartment but she had to find her beloved dog. “Baby, mommy is home,” her voice cracked ending on a whisper. She pulled out her phone as she carefully entered into her apartment stepping over her broken coffee table and slowly making her way down the hallway. She stopped dead on her feet at her bedroom door, frozen, as she stared at Snowball’s tortured, bloody body hanging from the ceiling fan in her bedroom. “No….” she moaned falling against the doorway, sobs racking her body. She backed up, bumping into a solid mass. She quickly turned around and saw a hooded figure. A scream flew out of her mouth, quickly cut off as the figure grabbed her by the throat and lifted her off her feet, then slammed her into the wall. “Where is she?” the figure growled. She shook her head as she clawed at his hands. She fought to get a breath as he pulled back and slammed her again against the wall causing her world to go black.

Find out in Irrational Behavior: An Imperfect Past Novel (Incredible Dreams Series book two)

After tossing and turning for a few hours, I decided to get up and take a hot shower in the hopes that it would help me fall asleep easier. I took off my clothes and stepped into the shower, closing my eyes and letting the hot water beat on my face; I could feel the tension in my shoulders dissipate as I stood there. Just as I went to reach for my chamomile exfoliating scrub, the room was plunged into darkness. I felt someone’s presence in the room before even seeing anyone. My heart started beating rapidly and my mind immediately jumped back to the person who had broken into my house a little while ago. My first instinct was to scream at the top of my lungs for Alexandra and Alyssa, but then I remembered that they weren’t home.
Footsteps started walking away in the opposite direction… whoever was in there with me ran out of the bathroom in a hurry and closed the door with a bang. Every single hair on my neck stood up straight. I quickly shut off the water and felt around me to find the vanity, clinging onto it for balance and guidance as I opened the top drawer to remove a candle and some matches from it. My fingers were trembling like crazy yet somehow, I managed to light the candle anyway. I grabbed a towel with my left hand and secured it around my body, tiptoeing as quietly as possible towards the door with my heart beating in my throat. I had no idea what to expect on the other side, so I tried to steady my nerves and slowly pushed the door open. After I’d inspected the hallway, I started walking toward the basement to go check the fuses. I walked straight toward the main breaker box and opened the gray lid. Just as expected, there’s nothing wrong with them. Suddenly, I was pulled out of my thoughts when a hand positioned itself on my shoulder and another one slapped the candle right out of my hand.
Once again total darkness fell over me. I let out a colossal scream while I tried to struggle free from his tight grip. I screamed and screamed until he pressed his hand against my mouth. He started laughing like a mad man and told me to pipe down. “No one is going to hear you, dear. There’s no one here!” His voice was strangely electronic as if it had been altered by one of those voice changers. “I’ve been looking forward to having you all to myself and this time, Nathaniel isn’t around to help you out.”
His words snapped me right out of my weak moment, they made me feel so stupid for the way I feared someone who wasn’t even man enough to show me his true identity. I desperately wanted to know who this man was and before I knew it, I dug my heel into his right foot with everything I had in me. He cursed at me and loosened his grip, giving me an opportunity to elbow him right in the crotch. He let go and I wriggled free, moving away faster than I’d ever did in my life. I couldn’t see a thing, not even a sliver of light passed through the basement. I didn’t know where the door was, I didn’t even know where the stairs were until I tripped on the bottom step and fell face down on the staircase. I sighed in relief, but before I got the chance to stand up straight the man attacked me from behind.
That’s when I heard Aaron yelling my name. “Leona! Leona,” he bellowed. “Where are you?”

The man covered my mouth and held something cold and metal against my cheek. “If you want to make it out of here alive, I suggest you shut the fuck up and keep perfectly still.” My breath caught in my throat as I felt, what could only be described as a gun dig into my cheek. I could barely breathe as I watched my entire life flash right in front of me. My unshed tears started burning in my eyes, I couldn’t do anything else but close my eyes and let them out.

Retaliation Excerpt:

It is especially dark out tonight, not even a glimmer of light from the moon can be seen. This is the perfect night to make my move. Most people wouldn’t even be able to see their hand in front of their face, but I can though. I’m wearing the night vision goggles that were given to me by Brina. She’s my instructor, my guardian, and my voice of reason. I met Brina shortly after that fateful night two years ago. But that story is for another time. Right now I have to concentrate. I’ve been watching and waiting for months to take this guy down. I’ve already taken down two of the six that are on my list. The first two were easy, they didn’t cover their tracks very well. However, this guy had. It’s as if he knew I was coming for him. But, no matter how much he thinks he’s planned for an attack, tonight I will kill him.

I hear their voices before I hear their footsteps coming down the hallway. He’s not alone, but that’s not a problem for me. I just have to re-assess my plan of attack. I had a lot of training with Brina, before I ever started working through my hit list. She taught me how to think on my feet and change tactics at a lightning fast rate.

I need to concentrate on the job right now, I slow my breathing and listen. They should be close now. I can hear them on the other side of the door, whispering lightly to one another.

From the tone and timbre of their voices, I can tell that there are just two of them. My target and a woman. I can hear them start to make out, I roll my eyes and wait; my timing must be perfect. There is no room for errors.

Their moans get louder and I hear a thump against the door, he’s backed her against it. Well, they’re certainly taking it up a notch. I feel sick to my stomach, and I find myself starting to breathe hard in anticipation. I have to control my nerves. I’ve worked too hard to give up my position now. In their current state, I’ll be able to catch them off guard easily.

I hear someone fumble with the doorknob, I mentally ready myself for the attack. I want to get to them before they turn on the lights, that way they never see me coming.

I quickly make a game plan, I’m going to attack the man first, mainly because he’s the largest and hardest to take down. A positive by-product of this is the fact that she will be confused by what’s going on and I can take her out in the confusion.

I hear him say something to her. By the sound of their voices I can tell they’ve been drinking. I smile to myself while thinking that this is almost too easy.

As the door opens I ready myself for the attack, I crouch low to the ground and watch. I see him reach for the light and that’s my cue to move. I quickly and quietly sneak up behind him, taking him by complete surprise. I put him in a chokehold and pin one of his arms behind his back so his chances of fighting back are limited.

I quickly put him to sleep, but I’m careful not to kill him just yet. The moment isn’t quite right. I want him to see me, I mean really see me before he dies. I want him and all the rest of the men on my list to know who’s taking their last precious moments of life away. I want them to know who their killer is.

These are the men that the so called “soldiers” of the capital can’t touch. Men that have killed and hurt so many people, including me. I want to put them six feet under where they can’t hurt another person, ever again.

I turn now and face the woman. When she realizes that she’s my next target, she starts to scream. She has no idea what’s going on or if I’m going to kill her.

I quickly grab her, putting her to sleep as well. I hope her screams haven’t drawn attention to this room. I look down the hallway, assessing the situation, but I don’t see or hear anything out of the ordinary.

I return to the unconscious man, and get to work. First, I tie him up, and then I take care of her. I give her an injection in the arm, tomorrow she’ll wake up with a massive hangover, but with only minimal recollection of tonight’s events. Brina supplied me with these little cocktails to help erase the minds of innocent bystanders, such as this woman. I try not to use them if I can help it, but tonight is one of those nights.

I quickly drag the woman’s body into the stairwell where she’ll remain until she’s discovered in the morning.

I walk back into the room with a glass of cold water that I got from the bathroom in his office, and I throw it in his face in order to revive him. He comes to groggily, looking around the room slowly.

His eyes grow wide when he sees me standing over him. I can see his mind working, he’s trying to figure out who I am, why I’ve captured him.

He begins to panic when he realizes that he can’t talk or move. I’ve covered his mouth with tape and tied him pretty tightly to a chair. After letting him stew for a bit, getting more panicky with each passing second, I finally speak.

“There’s no use in trying to get free. I hate to pat myself on the back, but I tie a pretty mean knot. I’m sure you’re wondering why I attacked you and tied you up. Well, you’ll find out in due time. Now, before I introduce myself, or should I say, reintroduce myself, you need to understand that you had this coming. You need to realize that you attacked the wrong couple that night.”

I walk over to the light switch and flick on the remaining lights. It’s time to let the scumbag sitting in the chair know who I am.

I turn back to face him while I slowly pull my mask off, uncovering my face and hair. Recognition of who I am is written all over his face, and his eyes grow wide with fear. He panics, it’s as if he’s seen a ghost.

I ignore his panicked look, and resume my story.

“So, as you can see Mr. Bentley, I’m in fact not dead, but very much alive. I’m here to make you pay, and pay you will. You murdered Johnathan Blake, and I will have retaliation for your crimes.”

Now that he’s seen me, and knows just what crime he’s dying for, I’ll torture him a few more minutes. Then I’ll kill him and make my escape.

I already have it all planned out. I always survey the buildings inside and out before going after the scumbags on my list.

I continue to taunt him for a few more minutes as planned. I tell him how I over-powered his other two friends, and what the next three have coming. I will hunt them down for the rest of my life, if that’s what it takes to get the retaliation I desire.

I soon grow tired of toying with him. With my mind made up and my face a steel mask, I walk up to Kristopher Bentley and punch him hard, directly in the face knocking him out cold. I do it for no other reason except that it felt so good to hit him. I quickly inject him with a serum that will stop his heart.

I wait until I can no longer hear or feel his heart beating.

I grab his wrist and check his pulse just to make sure he’s dead.

I don’t bother to untie him. I want him to be found just like this. I want him to be a message to the others. I want them to know that they’re being hunted, and there is nothing they can do about it.

I shoot one last glance in Kristopher’s direction, then walk over and turn off the lights.

It’s now time to make my escape. I only make it halfway out of the building before I realize that something is wrong. I feel a tingling sensation on the back of my neck; I’m being followed. How is this possible? Did Kristopher have someone watching over him? It shouldn’t be possible. I was nothing, if not thorough. If it were Kristopher’s men, then surely they would have stepped in to help him.

I try not to panic. I steel my nerves and decide the best course of action is to follow through with my escape plan. If I move as fast as possible, I should make it out before they can catch up to me.

I realize my mistake much too late. I’m so focused on the person I hear following me, that I don’t see the person that comes up on my right. I feel a blinding pain on the right side of my skull, my last conscious thought before the world goes black is; “I’ve failed.
