book blurb

Driven by fear and desperate to protect her family, Samantha is forced to leave Chicago and everything she’s worked to achieve, only to start over by tossing a dart-at-the-map. The Georgia townsfolk’s true Southern charm is the unexpected prescription needed to heal her soul, and the sexy carpenter who touches her heart are distractions she didn’t plan on, but they might offer her a chance at a new life, if she can let go of her past.

Town heartbreaker Spencer Malloy isn’t looking for anything serious. His days are perfect working as a contractor, attending his nephew’s baseball games, or taking him fishing. He never expects to fall for the big city girl, Samantha. She’s not his type, timid and closed off, but in her unguarded moments, he’s intrigued by the woman he can’t get out of his mind. The urge to get closer to her grows stronger each day, and when the shadow of evil resurfaces, he vows to protect Samantha, even if it means abandoning his home and joining her on the run.

When confronted by the man who’s bent on revenge, Samantha must choose between running again to save the people she loves, or, if she has the strength, to stay and fight for her new life.

excerpt

“Here it is.” Jenny announced. She stopped the car in front of an old white house with peeling paint and looked over at Sam whose eyes began to fill with tears.

“Like I said, it needs some work. When Pete got sick, no one really paid much attention to the house. It’s been sitting here idle for a while. His boys just couldn’t bring themselves to sell it at first, and then…”

“No, it’s perfect,” Sam’s voice sounded watery. “It’s the first house I’ve ever owned.”

After fighting off the foolish tears, Sam climbed out of the car, strolled through the freshly cut grass, and up to what could be a beautiful porch. Jenny unlocked the door as she chattered away about the house, but Sam wasn’t listening. This was it, her new home.

Entering through the wood and glass front door, Sam stepped into a little hallway and felt her heart swell. The inside was small and cozy. The perfect place to sit and feel safe from the outside world.

“Excuse me, earth to Sam. Do you want to see the rest of the house?”

Sam turned, face warm. “Yes, sorry. Lead the way.”

Jenny led her down the hall to show her the kitchen, which had a wonderful view of the backyard, they moved through the dining room and then the upstairs before returning to the den. It was a wonderful little house, so much more than what she imagined for herself.

A car backfired out on the main road and Sam jumped.

“Are you okay?” Jenny’s blue eyes widened, her voice threaded with concern.

“Fine.” Sam let out a shaky breath and waited for her heart rate to return to normal. “I must’ve been so lost in all my plans for the house that I was in another world.”

Jenny gave her a warm smile, but continued to watch her with a crease between her perfect eyebrows.

“Should we be off to your office now?” Sam tried to sound relaxed.

Jenny beamed. “The papers are ready for you.”

Relief washed through Sam as the thrill of the sale seemed to distract Jenny from Sam’s nervous behavior. She led the way out the door and took a deep breath of country air. It was going to be okay here. No one knew where she was. Not her family. Not her best friend. No one. She glanced over her shoulder at the little white house, which for her, symbolized so much more than a new house. She was home.

Loving Ashe Book Blitz & Giveaway with Liz Durano

Title: Loving Ashe
Author: Liz Durano
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Blurb:
Three years after her childhood sweetheart left her for his Hollywood dream, can a celebrity romance with British heartthrob Ashe Hunter get Riley Eames’ life moving again?
A booty call. A stuck elevator. A chance to move on.
When Riley Eames agrees to meet her ex-boyfriend in his hotel room “just to talk,” she knows it could only mean one thing – a booty call.
But three years after he left her to pursue his Hollywood dream, she’s determined to get answers to the questions only he can answer – until she finds herself trapped in the elevator with charming British actor, Ashe Hunter, who’s in town to promote his latest movie.
But a celebrity romance may not be enough to get Riley’s life moving again, not when the answers long kept hidden from her are finally revealed, and letting go just might be the last thing she can ever do.
Though Liz studied journalism in college, she discovered that she preferred writing romantic fiction over news and ad copy. She lives in Southern California with her family where she spends her days writing, chasing after her 6-year old, and stepping over Legos.

“Twenty questions,” Ashe said softly as Riley snuggled against him, both of them facing the window. More than twenty-four hours since they both stumbled into her apartment after a beautiful night out on the town, it was drizzling.  Water trails made their way down the window panes, casting shadows across their bodies lying on the bed.
Riley didn’t have to glance at the clock to know that dawn was approaching. They’d fallen asleep after the third time making love–the third time of crying out his name as she came, her voice growing hoarser with each gasp, each moan, each breath that left her lips. Her body was spent, though her spirits soared every time he touched her, kissed her, and pulled her towards him. She loved the way he looked at her when he made love to her, the way he buried his face in her hair, his fingers interlaced with hers that told Riley he was really there, and he was really seeing her.
He was baring her.
“Can we just start with five?” Riley asked. “I’m usually the one who asks the questions.”
“Why are you afraid of being asked similar questions you had no problems asking me?”
“I just prefer to ask them.”
“Don’t you think that’s unfair?” His voice grew lower, teasing.
“Yes, it is.”
“I don’t understand.”
“Because I’ve made my mistakes, and I don’t want to be judged because of them.”
“Do you believe falling in love is a mistake?” he asked.
“Only when there’s no guarantee that it’ll last forever.”
“Nothing last forever, Riley. But would you have wanted the last…relationship to last forever?”
She sighed. “You ask hard questions, Ashe.”
“Please answer the question, Riley. Would you prefer thatrelationship to last forever? Gareth?”
“In hindsight, no,” she replied. “He would have betrayed me anyway. If not in L.A., then right here in New York. Or anywhere for that matter.”
“You’re uncomfortable,” Ashe said. “Would you want me to stop asking questions?”
Riley turned to face him, marveling at the color of his eyes. So blue, darkening whenever he frowned. She shook her head. “It’s only fair that you get to ask the questions.”
“Even if it makes you uncomfortable?”
“Maybe it’s time for me to stop feeling too comfortable,” Riley replied as she turned to lay on her back. Ashe still had his arm around her, his other hand supporting his head. “I’ve been hiding from the truth for so long. If not drugs, then I did it by working too much. And I still do.”
“What are you afraid of?”
“The truth–the awful, ugly truth that people hide behind their lies, their smiles,” she replied. “So sometimes I don’t even try asking the questions that need to be asked. I’m afraid that I’d find out the truth and it’ll hurt. And I’m afraid of being alone.”
“But you’re not alone. So many people love you.”
“Then why do I feel lonely?”
“Are you feeling lonely now?” Ashe asked, frowning.
Riley shook her head, forcing a smile before sighing. This was exactly what she feared. The truth. But she might as well say it for in the morning, he’d be gone, and he’d probably forget all about her.
“No, right now I’m fine. But when you go–and you will go–then I will feel lonely. But I’ll be okay,” she said, looking up at him, serious now. “Any more questions?”
Ashe frowned. He was studying her face as if he was taking in every curve of her cheek, every line that would have told him she really laughed more than she cried. She was a barista after all. And baristas needed to be happy.
“Ask me if I ever feel lonely,” Ashe whispered. “Go on.”
“Do you ever feel lonely?”
“Sometimes,” he replied. “And I never felt as lonely as I did when I first met you in that elevator. Two people standing in a box, yet so distant. So alone, and so apart from each other. You on your way to something that would connect you with your past–”
“I had changed my mind then.”
“–and me walking away from people who wanted me only according to what I could do for them,” he said, smiling drily.
Riley turned to look at him. Before this, they’d lain on the bed on their sides, still facing the window with her back to him. But she needed to see him now, to see his face, his eyes.
“Is that why you started talking to me?” Riley asked. “To make a connection to something else? Something more real?”
“Someone, Riley. Not something. And you’re more than real. You’re the real thing,” Ashe said, kissing her forehead. “You made me smile my first real smile that day.”
“Well, I can be comedy relief,” she said softly though Riley didn’t laugh. There was something in his words that tugged at her.
“Well, there’s that,” Ashe chuckled, rolling onto his back as Riley turned to face him, half on her side and half leaning against him. His fingers played with her hair, pushing a lock away from her face or twirling it around his long fingers. “You’re a very beautiful woman, Riley. Never forget that.”

EXCERPT:

He’s quiet, lost in his own head, and most likely, he’s still worrying. So far, with this thing we have going on, he’s never really pulled away from me. Although, the opportunity hasn’t been there before either. That scares the hell out of me. He’s my rock, always has been. How am I supposed to stay steady and strong with him cracking?

When we walk outside and he goes to open the passenger door for me, I stop him. “Trace,” I start, but no other words come.

He sighs. The cold air is making his breath visible. “I know, Britt. I know.” He pulls me against him and wraps his arms around me. I’m glad he knows because I sure don’t. My head rests on his chest, my arms firmly around him, and I relish in the feel of his big, strong, sturdy body. We stand there in silence for about a minute. “It’s going to be hard, you know.”

“Why?” Why does it have to be hard? Why does everything have to be so damn hard all the damn time?

“Because we’re both not quite sane,” he says with a half-sigh and half-serious tone.

I can’t help it; I laugh. I turn my face inward to press my forehead against his jacket, and I can’t stop freaking giggling. We’re not crazy; but he’s right. We’re not quite sane either.

Trey catches up with me and pushes me against the wall with his body. “What the fuck, Trey! Get off me!” I struggle against his grip and the weight of his body.
“Come on, Ivy. I know you want me. I got your message loud and clear when you kissed me at the race yesterday.” His lips kiss me from my jaw down my neck as he uses his knee to spread my legs, leaning in closer. I smell the alcohol rolling off him, and it has a mixture of burned charcoal that reminds me of Beleth’s goons who tried to rape me. An urgency pours over me to get out of the situation by any means necessary.
Shit. This is gonna hurt.
“Trey,” I leer with seduction, demanding his attention. He leans back to look me in the eyes, and I give him a coy smile. He loosens his grip on me, and I run my hands through his hair above his ears. He motions to kiss me again and hesitates as I speak, “I’m really sorry, Trey.” He raises an eyebrow in question. He has no idea what I’m apologizing for. I rear my head back and bring my forehead to his nose as hard as I can, using it as a battering ram. He stumbles back, and I take my chance to leave.
Jack marches toward me with a pissed off expression and stops at the front of the hallway. His fists are clenched at his sides, and his eyes glare with a faint white illumination while the lighting from the room behind him give him a glowing aura. “Ivy? Are you ok?” his voice grates through his clenched teeth.
“Yeah. Just take me home,” I brood with my head down, avoiding his gaze as I storm toward him.
“You bitch!” Trey curses with hostility, and I look over my shoulder as he charges towards me. Jack stomps down the hall a few steps and freezes as I bring up my elbow, swing back, and bust Trey in the face. I twist and push his head down to knee him in the stomach, and he falls to the ground coughing.
“Stay down,” Jack warns from beside me and grabs my hand to lead me out of the house. His body’s radiating heat so hot I start sweating again.
We jump in the car and peal out. Jack glances over to me with concern, his anger boiling under the surface. “What happened?”
“Nothing.” My head throbs, and I reach up to touch my right eye. There’s blood on my fingers when I pull them away.
Jack reaches over and pulls my chin to face him. “You’re bleeding again.”
“Yeah,” I wince.
Jack shifts into fifth gear as we pull onto the highway, then maneuvers his shirt off as he steers. He hands it to me, “Here. Put this on your eye. It’ll help stop the bleeding.”
I take the shirt from him and hold it to my eyebrow while I try to avoid gawking at his body. “Sorry. I’m not trying to bleed all over your car.”
“I’m not worried about the fucking car, Ivy! What the hell happened?” he raises his voice in anger.
“Nothing. Don’t worry about it. I can take care of myself,” I repeat in monotone.
His face falls, then he grins at me. “I can see that, but I should have been there. Yet again! I told you I would look out for you. You shouldn’t have had to do that.”
Quickly sobering up, I question, “Where the hell were you all night anyways? I went to go do some shots, and turned around to give you one, and you were gone!”
“I got caught up talking to some guys from out of town,” he admits. I’m silent against his excuses. “Where did you learn to fight like that? That’s the second time I’ve seen you kick someone’s ass.” Jack smiles with pride.
I smirk at him and quip, “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

Blurb:
“Centuries ago I screwed up. Lost control of my darkness and did some things that I honestly wish I could erase from my memory. Feeling I had grown too powerful for my own good, the Council of Immortals banded together to create a linking spell which would forever connect my powers and emotions to those of a mortal with a pure and innocent heart. Unfortunately, the Council foolishly underestimated the depths to which my soul had descended. As a result, I have been forced to watch over and over again as my darkness eventually devoured the light shining within the poor souls chosen to be my Link. I would be lying if a said this didn’t bother me, although probably not as much as it should. But regardless of my feelings, fate is fate, and unfortunately for Citera, hers has now become entwined with mine.” – K.
Six months after K turned their lives upside down, Mikel, Citera, and their friends are beginning to settle into life inside Jaron’s camp. And with no patrols, inspectors, or Shadows around, it is a life none of them would have ever dreamed of having. However when ghosts from K’s past make an appearance and snap her usually unwavering control, Citera begins to be plagued by some strange and alarming symptoms. No longer able to keep the truth hidden, Jaron and K are forced to at last reveal the dark secret they have been keeping from the father and daughter, one that will alter the course of Citera’s life forever.
While her friends are adapting to life in paradise, Maya is struggling to survive her own personal hell. Locked in the Tower, she lives from day to day, desperate to find a way to connect with the only person who could make it all tolerable. Jarod, however, wanting to protect her from the darkness that is growing inside him, continues to push her away. But when a trip outside the Tower leads to Jarod learning that he has been lied to by the only person he ever trusted, he finds himself at a crossroads. Should he continue living the charade, protecting people who would just as soon see him dead as to look at him, or for the first time in his life, should he do what is right for him and allow himself to fall for this girl who consumes his every waking thought?

She debated for a short time as to whether or not she wanted to return to college, but after much consideration, swiftly decided that was not the path for her at the moment.
