Stealing the Bachelor by Sonya Weiss (Stealing the Heart #3 – Can be read as a standalone)
Release date: January 11, 2016
About the book:
Having missed out on the “drop-dead-gorgeous” gene in her family, Ann Snyder decides to kick a little butt in the business world instead. That is, until her skeezy manager’s “side business” has the FDA raiding her chocolate shop. Now Ann’s in huge trouble…and the only person who can help her is the adorkable guy who completely humiliated her in high school.
Lawyer Eric Maxwell has been in love with Ann as long as he can remember. He figured he never stood a chance—don’t the beautiful girls always prefer the bad boys to the nerds? So he makes Ann a deal. He’ll provide her with free legal services…if she’ll move in and help him transform him from nerd-without-a-clue to bona fide bad boy.
And once the transition is complete, all he has to do is prove that he’s the only bachelor for her…
Eric’s hands tightened on the wheel until his knuckles ached. Being in close proximity to Ann was harder than he’d thought it would be. When he’d leaned into her car, he’d almost given in to the urge to kiss her. That move wouldn’t have earned him any points, though, that was for sure.
He couldn’t believe how badly he’d botched the conversation about not being her friend, then fumbled over saying he wanted to be her friend. He sighed. When he spoke to other women, he never got tongue-tied. Never fumbled. Didn’t act like an idiot. With them, he’d never had anything to lose. But with Ann, his heart was on the line, and he wanted to say all the right things, do all the right things. He wanted to impress her and sweep her off her feet. Instead, he’d ensconced himself squarely in the “we-aren’t-friends” zone, which was worse than the friend zone. This was the no- way zone. The no-way guy was the one who couldn’t make it through the I’d-date-him gate.
Giving himself a mental shake, he steered the car onto Ann’s street. He’d try again. He couldn’t let her think that he didn’t want to be her friend. He simply didn’t want to be just her friend.
