My review of In Her Defense by Julianna Keyes

This book involves Caitlin, a blonde, beautiful, successful attorney, who has put in countless work hours and practically lives in her law office to get to the top of her field. Caitlin is forced to reduce her hours at work due to a costly legally error. With work no longer her whole life, she finds herself lost until she meets Eli, head of the firm’s IT department, and a relationship ensues.

I really enjoyed the change that occurs in Caitlin throughout the book. She is viewed by her work associates as an avaricious woman and only out for herself. This is sadly how society views a woman that is trying to make her way to the top of the corporate ladder, but if this were a man we were discussing, his actions would be acceptable, but I digress.

I also enjoyed the character of Eli and how Caitlin first perceives him. Caitlin is quick to make assumptions about the kind of person Eli is like others have always done to her. I also enjoyed the way that Eli helped Caitlin realize there is more to life than just work and that you can love more than just one thing.

Also, throughout this book, you see a Caitlin’s relationship with her sister, Susan, and her ten-year-old niece, Dorrie. Susan, a prominent Chicago neurosurgeon, who also works many hours and is barely home to be with Dorrie. This was one of the things in the book that absolutely broke my heart.

In the end, all things work out the way they should. Eli emotionally helps Caitlin but Caitlin emotionally helps Eli right back.

This book is not just about love but also about how someone can help us see our own faults and want to change to be a better person, but not for someone else, but for yourself.

Overall, this was a very well written book that had a good underlying message to it, and a whole lot of sex! I give it 4 out of 4 roses!

I was drawn to this book not just because of the cover, which deserves 4 out of 4 roses, but because my day job is in the legal field.

Thank you to Net Galley for an ARC of this book.

This book is available for pre-order on Amazon and will be released September 7, 2015. In Her Defense (Time Served)
